A strong woman can do it all by herself.

A strong woman can do it all by herself.

A strong woman can do it all by herself.
A strong woman can do it all by herself.

A strong woman can do it all by herself but a good man will be right by her side so she won’t have to. ~Gia

The original version of this quote goes like this:  “A real woman can do it all by herself, but a real man won’t let her.” – Unknown

Although I’ve always loved the sentiment of this quote, I’ve always intensely disliked the wording.  Firstly, I don’t like the term “real” when associated with women and/or men.  We’re all real people, living and breathing, so to insinuate differently, regardless of how one defines true “womanhood” or “manhood”, is rather perplexing to me.

Secondly, I’ve always been turned off by the “won’t LET her” phrase in the quote.  It feels as though there is some kind of permission-granting undertone to the relationship dynamic.  I’m an adult who makes my own decisions – I know I don’t need anyone’s permission to do that, and neither do you.

For these reasons, I decided to paraphrase this quote to express a different, more supportive relationship dynamic which is, I’m sure, what the author (whoever that may be) intended to begin with.  I’m sure many of you word wizards could have come up with many fantastic variations and rewordings of this sentiment but I hope you enjoy mine. <3 ~Gia

    1. Tell him that if he’s so sure that it is all your fault that he should just go to sleep. Meanwhile, you sit up next to him with your arms crossed. Sure, baby, go to sleep, nothing will happen because you are innocent as the driven snow…makes them nervous!
