I’m so glad that my near 30 year love affair with Jon Bon Jovi is warranted. I mean, what’s there not to love about him? At 51, he is more swoon-worthy than ever, a talented musician with a long standing career, devoted husband of 24 years, father of four children, supporter of various charities, and most recently owner of “Soul Kitchen” Community Restaurant in Red Bank, New Jersey, opened in 2011.

Many stars have opened their own restaurants over the years but Jon Bon Jovi’s is a little different.  It operates under the tag line “Hope is Delicious”, and describes itself as “a community restaurant with no prices on the menu; customers donate to pay for their meal. If you are unable to donate you may do volunteer work in exchange for your family’s meal.”  So cool?  I think so!

The restaurant is an extension of The Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation which was founded in 2006. Bon Jovi’s road has not always been easy, having come from very humble beginnings and working hard to achieve his star status. In turn, he has devoted a lot of his time to giving back to the community.  The Foundation works with non-profit organizations and community leaders to help establish programs and partnerships that provide the basic needs of food and shelter. In addition, they also look to add green elements into every project that they support including using green building materials and energy efficient appliances.  To date, the Soul Foundation has assisted in providing homes to more than 260 low-income individuals and families in locations such as Philadelphia, PA; Brooklyn, NY; Rockdale County, GA; Houma, LA; Detroit, MI; Newark, NJ; Camden, NJ; and Los Angeles, CA.
